Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit is an acclaimed Indian actress, best known for her role in the films Beta Saajan as well as Hum Aapke Haiin Koun..! In the 80s the actress began her acting career. She became well-known for the character Tezaab which she played with the veteran actor Anil Kapooor. Her next appearance on screen was in Dil along with Aamir. Early on, as a girl growing up in Mumbai's middle class she learned to dance. As a young woman, she started acting but had a difficult time as a majority of her films were flops. She finally found success, and was one of the most well-known actresses within the Indian film business. Her marriage led to a hiatus from her acting career. She returned later. More recently she played in a crucial role in the film Gulaab Gang which was about the challenges faced by women living in India. Dixit has been nominated for the fifteen Filmfare Awards, out of which she was awarded eight. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honor in India. Her name is well-known for her social works as well.
